What’s in a name?

As anyone will tell you, a lot, and when it comes to titles, well, they can make or break your book.

It’s a shame then that I struggle to come up with good titles. Husband reminded me of a story about the writer, Alan Coren (father of Victoria). Alan Coren was a columnist and regular guest on radio quiz shows. A very talented and funny man. When he was putting together a book of his writings and he was thinking of a title he did some research. I assume he went to the library or bookshops as the internet would have been in its early days when he was writing. Anyway he wanted to find out what subjects sold the most books.

When he’d done his research he titled his book, Golfing for Cats.

That’s one way of doing it I suppose.

Hi Liz — The new website looks great so far! I used to love Alan Coren’s stuff in Punch magazine back in the old days. I love his well-researched title for his book, LOL! My all-time favourite book title is for volume 1 of Spike Milligan’s memoirs of his time as a private in the British Army — “Adolf Hitler: My Part in His Downfall.”
